JIANG Wen  
 

Chinese actor, director, stage designer and producer JIANG Wen was first known in China for his part in the television series Pekingese in New York (1992), which led him to become one of the most successful actors of his generation. In the West, he was discovered thanks to Red Sorghum, in which he played with GONG Li. JIANG has also played parts in Hibiscus Town (1984), Black Snow (1990), The Emperor’s Shadow (1996) and The Soong Sisters (1997). In 1994, he wrote and directed his first film, In the Heat of the Sun. The actor XIA Yu was to win the award for best actor at the Venice Film Festival, and the film was to win six Golden Horse Awards in Taiwan. JIANG’s second film, Devils on the Doorstep won the Grand Prix at the 2000 Cannes Festival.
