China in Town

The artist’s trail has become a tradition during the Europalia festivals. On the occasion of europalia.china, four renowned Chinese artists will explore the festival themes in Brussels city centre. HUANG Rui, GU Wenda, XU Longsen and ZHU Ming will respectively explore Immortal China, Contemporary China, Colourful China and China and the World.

On the Coudenberg, HUANG Rui has created the installation ‘Animals in Time’: Chinese history is explored and revisited through his works that combine bricks from the Hutongs and sculptures inspired by Chinese astrology.

XU Longsen will decorate the Courts of Justice (salle des pas perdus) with eight ink landscapes. XU’s works are characterized by their monumental dimensions, the brush technique and the complexity of their subjects.

About Europalia Arts Festival
Europalia is a major international arts festival held every two years to celebrate one invited country’s cultural heritage. Its name is a combination of two words: “Europe” and “Opalia,” an ancient Roman harvest festival held in mid-December in honor of Ops, earth-goddess and fertility deity.
