Year:2006
Sort:Folk Custom
Area:Guizhou Province
Serial No.:Ⅹ-21
Declarer:Guizhou Province

The Chabai Song festival is a traditional festival of the Bouyei ethnic group, and is usually held in Chabai Village in the suburbs of Xinyi City, Guizhou Province. It takes place from June 21 to 22 of every Chinese lunar year. The gala is held on a flatland measuring 2.5 kilometers long and one kilometer wide in the heart of the village.

Whenever the festival is approaching, the local people busy themselves with preparations. They wash clothing, quilts and mosquito-curtains and hang them all over the village, symbolizing white clouds and cleanliness. Girls prepare small embroidered bags (for carrying money and odds and ends) for the person with whom the girl falls in love as a souvenir of engagement. Young men try to select good bracelets and necklaces as gifts for their beloved. Children put on new clothes and new hats for the festivities.
