The 40th Hong Kong Arts Festival in 2012

 

Launched in 1973, the Hong Kong Arts Festival is a major annual festival in the region and the territory's premier cultural event. This year is the 40th arts festival.

The opening ceremony of the Hong Kong Arts Festival in Hong Kong, south China was held on Jan 31, 2012. On that day, the Third Symphony of Gustav Mahler, the high-quality ballet performed by The Hamburg Ballet, was the festival opening.

Donald Tsang, the Chief Executive of Hong Kong, and Charles Lee, Chairman of Hong Kong arts festival, and other distinguished guests attended the opening ceremony and watched the show.

Artists from around the world presented 166 shows at the 40th Hong Kong Arts Festival. There were 12 world premier works and 10 Asia premier works. Featuring local and international artists in an eclectic array of music, theatre, dance and popular entertainment, the festival takes place in over a dozen venues in February and March.

In this art festival, Così Fan Tutte of Bavarian State Opera (BSO), Myung-whun Chung and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra (RCO), the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (BRSO), Dominante, the Sixteen Harry Christophers, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and many other famous teams will perform. Audiences who enjoy jazz, rock or Chinese folk music will be satisfied by the shows.
