Six Famous Choruses Performed on the 2nd August Chorus Festival

The second August Chorus Festival organized by China National Grand Theater had its grand opening on August 5. From then to August 13, six choruses from America, Finland, England and China will display the unique charm of choral singing to the audiences of Beijing.

The six choruses have gone through strict screening and examinations. The three from Europe and America, namely Cardinal from America, the Nightingales from Finland and VOCES8 acapella from England, are especially excellent.

Cardinal is the most famous chorus in America. It has gone on show for NBA games, and has won several championships of world-class chorus competitions. The Cardinal brought songs of different genres and various styles to the audience during the August Chorus Festival to show their expertise, their freewheeling styles, and the possibilities human voices could create. The audience indulged themselves in the music, from the sacred church chorus, to the rhythmic Brahms classic pieces, from American contemporary pieces to the lively and enthusiastic American country music. The three domestic choruses are equally strong. Taipei Philharmonic Chorus performed several classic songs by Deng Lijun, the late Chinese singer, such as “The Evening Primrose,” “The Moon Proves My Heart,” “Goodbye My Love” and so on. Please note that these classic songs performed have been reinvented by the chorus. The National Grand Theater Chorus and the Teenager Chamber Chorus also went on show afterwards.

The August Chorus Festival is an annual musical pageant of the National Grand Theater. As a festival oriented to music fans, it not only enriches the content and variety of the Theater’s performances, but has also become a platform for art groups, both domestic and foreign.
