Former Chinese Vice Premier Li Lanqing Seal-cutting Show Opened

 

"The Chemistry Between Me and Seal-Cutting—The Former Chinese Vice Premier Li Lanqing Seal-Cutting Show" opened at Prince Kung’s Mansion on June 29.

397 seal-cutting works by Li Lanqing, dating from 2003 to the present, were on display and divided into six parts according to their subjects. The works were accompanied by calligraphy, poems, musical pieces, pictures and chinaware, making the collection unprecedentedly complete.

Li Lanqing talked about his experiences with seal-cutting, about how he combined art with life, and immersed his life in the art of seal-cutting. Most importantly, he expounded on the popularization of seal-cutting, making it a traditional culture accepted and favored by people.

Li Lanqing has been studying the art of seal-cutting intensively, created nearly 500 works and held over 30 seal-cutting art works in colleges and culture institutions.

An Introduction to Li Lanqing

Li Lanqing was born in May, 1932 in Zhenjiang City, Jiangsu Province. After graduating from the Department of Business Administration, Fudan University, he joined the Communist Party of China and started to work in September, 1952.

 He worked in the automobile business from 1952 to 1981, in national trade and investment departments. From 1983 to 1986, he worked as the deputy mayor of Tianjin City. From 1986 to 1992, he worked in the Ministry of Foreign Economics and Trade. He became a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, and the vice premier of the State Council in 1993.
