Musical AIDA, the award-winning timeless love story, whose music and lyrics are composed by Elton John and Tim Rice, their first collaboration since writing the music for the worldwide phenomenon The Lion King, will be playing theatres across China in a newly conceived touring production soon. Based on the story from the classic Verdi opera, AIDA is a new musical with Elton John's modern pop score.

AIDA debuts at Shanghai's Majestic Theater on September 25 and will run through October 12, After that, the musical will tour around the country, including big cities such as Nanjing, Suzhou, Xi’an and finally Beijing where it will be playing theaters for a week.

Winner of four 2000 Tony Awards, Elton John and Tim Rice's AIDA is a musical bursting with contemporary energy chronicling the love triangle between Aida, a Nubian princess stolen from her country, Amneris, an Egyptian princess, and Radames, the soldier they both love.

However, the modern pop score of the musical is a highlight compared with the eminent Opera AIDA. A man and a woman meet at a museum before they get to know that they had a love story thousands of years ago. The ancient story is told from a modern angle. The love, responsibility, sacrifice, betrayal and seduction, all of which are temporary haunts of modern society, are emphasized in this musical.

The dances in AIDA are produced by a professional with 17 years modern dance experience. The American producers, actors, instruments, lights, dances of the original AIDA are all imported to China to bring us a visual feast.
