About the author: Gao Yongjian, received tuition in 1940's from a well-known Chinese sculptor. Job as a designer in Hong Kong after World War II. Back to mainland China in 1950 and engaged in ceramics ever since. Works acquired as permanent collection by the Great Hall of People (Beijing), etc. Started art teaching at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, 1963. Later President of the Academy and now Permanent Professor of the Academy's Design Branch.

Promotion to associate professor, 1992, and Deputy Dean of Department of Sculpture. Transferred with the same title to the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing, 1995. Now Head of in-campus ceramics studio.
