Over the past three centuries, Tongrentang has adhered to the traditional way of producing pharmaceuticals. It has gained fame in and outside of China because of its unique prescriptions, superb raw materials, exquisite manufacturing techniques, and its products' remarkable curative effects. It has also developed 10 key products and 10 famous medicines, including the Angong Niuhuang Wan (Heart-Refreshing Bezoar Pill) and the Wuji Baifeng Wan (Black-Bone Chicken Pill), which have found a ready market both in China and abroad. Today, Tongrentang is thus synonymous with fine quality and a sterling reputation.
Since its first medicine shop was established in Beijing's Dashilan, Tongrentang has snowballed and has set up a number of chains around China. In Beijing alone, there are dozens of Tongrentang medicine shops. In the 1990s, the time-honored shop in Dashilan set up a clinic where veteran TCM doctors are invited to see patients. Many Tongrentang shops in Beijing offer diverse services, such as medical consultations, herbal-medicine processing, postal delivery, and foreign-currency exchange.
In 1992, the Beijing Tongrentang Group Corporation was established; and since then, it has set up branches inHong Kong, Malaysia, Australia, and Great Britain. It has also established joint ventures in Thailand and Malaysia. As a name brand, Tongrentang has been registered in more than 50 countries and regions, including Canada, Thailand, and Australia.
