Speaking of Chinese calligrapher, an important figure who must be discussed is Yan Zhenqing, someone who is often mentioned in the same breath with Wang Xizhi for his achievements and influence in kaishu calligraphy.
Also named Yan Qingcheng, Yan Zhenqing （709-785）was a native of Linyi of present-day Shandong Province and was hailed as a representative of the middle Tang Dynasty. His regular script, with unique style and handwriting, is robust, muscular and grand and known as yanti (Yan style) to later generations.
Yan left a great many calligraphic works, where calligraphers of later generations have found tints of "chubby" writing, and was believed to be the initiator of a new method. Just as Wang Xizhi, who adopted a square style, Yan also had a deep and profound impact on calligraphers of upcoming generations.
