Sima Yi

Sima Yi (179–251AD), also known as Emperor Xuan of Jin, also known as Zhongda, was born in Wen County of Henei (present Wen County of Henan). He was a brilliant statesman and strategist of of Cao Wei during the Three Kingdoms era of China, and the founder of Western Jin Dynasty. He used to be appointed as the commander in chief, grand commandant and grand preceptor. He assisted three generations of the emperors of Cao Wei, and in his late time, he was the most powerful man of Wei. He is best known for defending Cao Wei from Zhuge Liang's Northern Expeditions. Yi was posthumously honored as “Marquis Wuyang xuanwen.” After his second son Sima Zhao was given the title of “King Jin,” he was given the posthumous title of “King Xuan.” After his grandson Sima Yan came to the throne, he was given the title Emperor Xuan.

 

Dong Zhuo

Dong Zhuo (? - April 23, 192AD), also known as Zhongying, was born in Lintao of Longxi Territory (today’s Min County of Gansu). He was a powerful official during the reign of Emperor Shao and Emperor Xian. In his prime, he earned the position of prime minister and “Marquis Mei.” He stationed troops in Liangzhou. Following the death of Emperor Ling in 189, General-in-Chief He Jin ordered Dong Zhuo to lead his troops into Luoyang to aid him in eliminating the eunuch faction. Dong Zhuo rose to power in the Imperial Court and ruled the nation with great tyranny and cruelty for a brief period of time. The following year, a coalition of regional officials and warlords launched a punitive campaign against Dong, which broke soon after Dong Zhuo was forced to move the capital city to Chang'an. Dong was killed by his trusted follower Lv Bu.
