In the past, Tibetan furniture tended to adopt religious themes, while now it also contains patterns of flowers, birds and landscapes, all welcomed by Han people. What’s more, some even adopt the most up-to-date themes like the Tibetan railways.

Viewed from the linking techniques, this furniture also changes considerably. Instead of pure handwork, Tibetan furniture making nowadays uses drills, saws and planes, which greatly enhance working proficiency.

If you are attracted to this special furniture, you can go to Beijing’s famous collection markets, such as Pan Jia Yuan, Shi Li He or Liang Ma He. Furniture lays there is of more or less even qualities. It you want to find one of supreme quality, you can go to their storage in Gaobeidian and Xiaowuji, where specialists can find some real good ones.

Tips

Most Tibetan furniture is purchased from temples or local people’s homes and is old in appearance. But never simply rely on this quality, for some merchants may cheat customers with fake ones, which are deliberately made dirty, imitating genuine works.
