Wang Hongfei, 23, a graduate from the Department of Arts and Design of Qinzhou University, has built a studio that aims to develop and research a new firing technique for Nixing Pottery. Wang has applied for a patent for the invention.
Nixing Pottery, produced in Qinzhou city in Guangxi province, has a long history of 1,300 years. In company with Jiangsu province's Yixing Pottery, Yunan province's Jianshui Pottery and Sichuan province's Rongchang Pottery, all are regarded as distinguished forms of art and are famous within the pottery profession. However, continuing the traditional production technique has proven to be difficult, which is why Wang hopes to develop a new method.
According to Wang, in order to achieve advanced artistic effects, Nixing Pottery combines traditional modeling design with sculptured ornaments to enhance the works' strong sense of Chinese culture.
