Jingbo Lake, or literally the Mirror Lake, is the largest alpine barrier lake in China, and the second-largest of its kind in the world, with an altitude of 350 meters above sea level. It is located 110 kilometers (68.35 miles) from Mudanjiang City, southeast of Heilongjiang.
The lake was formed 10,000 years ago when lava from volcanoes eruptions blocked the Mudan River. It is 45 kilometers (27.96 miles) long from north to south and 6 kilometers (3.72 miles) long at the widest point from east to west, covering a total area of 91.5 square kilometers (9,150 hectares).
As one of 18 world geoparks in China certified by UNESCO, Jingbo Lake is a haven for scientists as well as travelers with an eye for natural wonders.
