The Mysterious Guangren Lama Temple in Xi'an

Guangren Lama Temple, located in Xi'an, is the only Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Shaanxi province. Built in 1705, the temple was a Xanadu for the Grand Lama of the Northwest and Tibet when he passed through Shaanxi on his way to Beijing to meet the emperor. It had improved the cultural communication between Tibetan and the Han nationality in the course of the history.

Funded by the people’s government, the temple was rebuilt in 1952. The Mahavira Hall, the Sutras Keeping Hall, the Bodhisattva Hall and many other rooms were made brand new. Since 1983, the temple has been managed and run by monks and it is now a popular tourist attraction.
