The Tao Yuanming Memorial, located at Jiujiang County of Jiangxi Province and opened to the public on July 30, 1985 in memory of Tao Yuanming, a poet in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (317-420), is a memorial of historical figure. The site of the memorial used to be Tao Yuanming's Memorial Hall, originally located at 25 kilometers away from the south of the county and restored during 1533-1538 in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The hall covered an area of 250 square meters in the style of residential house south of the Yangtze River. In 1982, the hall was moved from the former site and reconstructed at the present site according to the original features. The original statue, the stele, the couplet written on the pillars of the hall and the stone inscriptions in the memorial hall have all been repaired and restored.
The memorial covers an area of 1,600 square meters. It has an exhibition room to show Tao Yuanming's Life Story and has collected over 300 exhibits, such as the traces of Tao Yuanming, photos, family tree, special research articles on Tao Yuanming through the ages and the paintings and calligraphies by celebrities. In addition, the memorial has also collected more than 30 thread-bound editions of theWorks of Tao Yuanming. Also on display in the memorial is the Exhibition of Historical Relics of Jiujiang County, showing the relics related to the time of Tao Yuanming and the cultural relics unearthed at Chaisang and Xunyang where Tao Yuanming once lived.
