Comrade Liu Shaoqi Memorial

Comrade Liu Shaoqi Memorial, located at Liu Shaoqi's hometown, Huaminglou Township of Ningxiang County in Hunan Province, is established in memory of Liu Shaoqi, one of the leaders of the CPC and the PRC. The memorial, prepared in 1984 and opened to the public in 1988, consists of eight show rooms, one audiovisual hall and two commemoration pavilions. The main building of the memorial covers an area of 3,100 square meterswith a bronze statue of Liu Shaoqi (3.1 meters for the pedestal and 4 meters for the statue) standing on the hill to the southwest of the memorial and with his former residence lying about 250 meters to the north of the memorial. The former residence, one of the major historical sites under the state protection, is a half-thatch and half-tile farmhouse in earth-and-wood structure.

The memorial, covering an area of 900 square meters, has collected over 3,000 items of exhibits, including 800 items left behind by Liu Shaoqi such as his articles for daily use, office articles, the farm tools used by Liu Shaoqi during his youth, the bed he slept and the straw hat he wore when he went home for a survey in May 1961, his spectacles and a briefcase. Of the things left behind, particularly valuable are an overcoat with a beaver collar he wore when visiting the Soviet Union, a portable radio set and a pair of pillows stuffed with sponge he used until his last days. Also on exhibition are 1,000 photos reflecting the achievements he made during his lifetime.
