The former residence of Zhu De is aSanheyuan(a compound with houses around a courtyard in three sides) in earth-and-wood structure, surrounded on all sides by a garden of bamboos and trees with a total space of 3,300 square meters. Zhu De lived here for 13 years when he was young. In July 1980, the former residence of Zhu De was announced as one of the major historical sites under the protection of Sichuan Province. In 1988, it was listed as the major historical sites under the State protection. The memorial covers a floor space of 2,560 square meters and a garden space of 13,400 square meters.
The memorial consists of five exhibition halls, reflecting the life story of Zhu De with historical relics, documents, charts and pictures, and photos. On display in the exhibition hall of poems, books and paintings are the poems and paintings composed and drawn by contemporary celebrities in memory of Zhu De.
