Haozhou City Museum

TheHaozhouCityMuseum, located atHaozhouCityofAnhuiProvince, is a topologicalmuseumofChinacollecting and sorting out the local historical relics and the local natural samples as well. It was built in 1958, the earliest local museum ofAnhuiProvince. The Hua Tuo (a famous doctor in the Three Kingdoms Period) Memorial Hall, completed and opened to the public in 1982, was under the management of the Museum.

The Museum has a collection of over 4,000 items, all excavated and collected from the city. Over 100 items belong to Class One Collection, including glass beads resembling dragonfly's eyes from the later Spring and Autumn Period (770-221BC), the seal from the Warring States Period (475-221BC), the jade clothes sewn with silver thread from the Han Dynasty (206BC-220AD), the ivory carved ruler, bronze pig, jade pig, and the pottery camel carrying silk on its back from the Sui Dynasty (581-618). All are of great value for researches. The main collections of the Museum are the bricks with inscriptions unearthed from the burial ground of Cao Cao's patriarchal clan in the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220), 570 bricks in total with more than 2,000 inscribed characters, of which those written inDacao(cursive script in Chinese calligraphy) andXingshu(running hand in Chinese calligraphy) are rare ones. Other engraved scriptures include valuable historic materials such as letters, record of events and people's names.

On display in the Museum are the local historical relics. Its basic exhibitions include the Exhibition Hall of Historical Relics of Haozhou and the exhibitions on special topics include the Exhibition Hall of Relics Unearthed from Burial Ground of Cao Cao's Patriarchal Clan.
