The Museum collects 40,000 pieces of cultural relics and historical documents, 56 of which are of the national first grade. The most treasured pieces are: a Qin dagger unearthed in 1962 near the Guangzhou suburb, and two lacquer boxes unearthed in a Qin tomb, which are the earliest records of exchanges between Han nationality states and minority states around.
The 28-meter tower was built in the 13thyear of the Hongwu Reign (1380) of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The displays in it focus on the three characteristics of Guangzhou: long history, booming trade and developed transportation system, and revolutionary events.
