The Exhibition Hall, consisting of six exhibition rooms, is one of the largest geological museums of provincial level. It has collected over 10,000 items of geological samples, including the main rock-type samples of the three major rock categories, the magmatic rock, the sedimentary rock and the metamorphic rock and various kinds of fossil samples of ancient extinct animals and plants, which include the cephalopod samples the Paleozoic Era which are almost intact, the plants amid the stratums of coal measures and various kinds of mineral samples. The display of the Exhibition Hall mainly focuses on the mineral resources of Inner Mongolia. They fall mainly into the following eight categories:
Rare-earth metal, which consists of 80% of the total deposit in the world, iron ore and scores of products selected from the molten iron;
Copper, lead and zinc ores in the stratum of the middle Proterozoic Era widely distributed in the west section of the north edge of the North China Region.
Chrome ore, which ranks number two in China;
Coal and various kinds of salt, which are the most important minerals of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region;
Iceland spar which ranks number one in China;
Reformed fluorite ore, the only super-large fluorite mineral deposit in China;
Large crystal beryl, topaz, phosphorite, muscovite and phlogopite; and
Jade and colorful stone minerals, such as aquamarine, large piece of agate, bright and lustrous Balin stone andJixueshi(bloodstone).
