The Geological Exhibition Hall of Petroleum University, located in the campus of Petroleum University of Dongying City of Shandong Province (East China), is a college-level petroleum geological museum of China. It used to be the Geological Museum of Beijing Petroleum College founded in 1955 and was moved to the present location with the College in 1964.
The Geological Exhibition Hall of Petroleum University has collected 263 varieties of mineral and rock samples from Germany and various kinds of geological samples and petroleum samples of the main large-scale oil and gas fields in China. It covers a space of 400 square meters for three show rooms.
The first show room is the Petroleum Geological Show Room, displaying mainly the samples of the raw oil, oil-storage core and crude oil of the oil and gas fields in Daqing, Dagang, Shengli, North China, Zhongyuan (the Central Plains comprising the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River), Jiangsu, Chaidamu, Kelamayi, Tarimu, Shan'si-Gansu-Ningxia, Sichuan and the Beibuwan Gulf (in the north part of the South China Sea between China and Vietnam), the South China Sea and the Bohai Sea (between the Shandong Peninsula and the Liaodong Peninsula) as well as the distribution map of the various major oil and gas fields.
The second show room is the Mineral and Rock Show Room, displaying mainly the various kinds of mineral and rock samples, both domestic and foreign, related to petroleum geology. Particularly rare samples are the 252 smooth series samples of the Sinian Period-the Cambrian Period-the Ordovician Period established with the combination of the ancient Qianshan Oilfield at Renqiu, the 38 series samples of the Silurian Period-the Triassic Period with the combination of finding petroleum in the southern carbonate rock and the 84 samples of the ancient extinct animals and plants in the Hainan Island and the nearby areas established with the combination of modern sedimentation investigation.
The third show room is the Show Room of Achievements in Scientific Researches of Petroleum Geology, displaying mainly the achievements in the fields of general investigation of petroleum and natural gas, the testing of rock mines and petroleum and gas and the instruments and facilities for testing.
